Meta Search Engines : Effective Tool for Information Retrieval

 

Abstract

 

The Internet has tens of millions of sites. One way of finding information on the Internet is the use of a "search engine". Search Engine is a retrieval service, which searches the resources available on the Internet. Meta-Search engine contact many search engines and compile the results. This paper discusses the features of Meta search engines in general, and their use and importance to the retrieval of information. The characteristics of some important Meta Search engines like MetaCrawler, Dogpile, InferenceFind etc. are also discussed.
